Persons may apply for the Professional Fashion Certification, NAcFD by submitting an application to the NAcFD Professional Fashion Certification Board. Nevada Association of Fashion Design (NAFD) is a Nevada State Association duly organized and existing under and by virtue of the laws of the State of Nevada. NAFD is governed and chartered by its articles of incorporation and by-laws which include the foundation, creation, existence, and fashion promotion through education and training by professionals in the field and industry of fashion and design. NAFD has been in existence and good standing in this State of Nevada since 1995, and the Fashion Design Program is co-sponsored with the University Nevada Las Vegas dept. of Educational Outreach.

At the simplest level, certification is designed to test and document a person’s readiness to enter a career or perform a job. Certification in an organized fashion, which measures an individuals qualifications to perform a specialized function and measure of competence. The need for certification arises in fast paced and changing industries such as fashion. The objective is to define excellence in terms of fashion performance, knowledge and outcome, to measure a person’s achievement by the industry standards and to hold persons accountable for what they know and can do.

Certification Sponsor; Nevada Association Fashion Design

Certification program sponsors includes a, manufacturer, vendor or an association.

Fashion Design Program Education & Training; NAFD & University Nevada Las Vegas Educational Outreach. The fashion design program curriculum integrates the changing face of the global fashion industry with conventional skills giving a well-rounded background to all fashion novices and those with established backgrounds. The educational program earns a COC in fashion design and is co sponsored by the NAFD and UNLV Educational Outreach. The program is approximately 232 hrs. which consist of 5 core classes and a variety of elective classes to choose from. The fashion program classes are conducted with the University Nevada Las Vegas Educational Outreach campus.

Requirements for Nevadan’s and students applying for fashion certification include;

*Completion of the Fashion Design Educational Program at UNLV.

This program consists of approximately 232 hrs of training and equals approximately 23.2 CEU’s earned.

*Completion and participation of 3 Fashion Events.

Three events consist of, Fashion Fest Mixer, A Touch of Fashion show, Student Competition Awards.

*Completion of a fashion apparel line. Must create a professional designer line of fashion apparel that

includes at least 3-6 garments and must be approved.

*Participation and promote designer line and participate in a fashion show, A Touch of Fashion annual gala event.

*Completion of a 20 or plus hours employed or shadow program in a fashion industry business.

Must have a minimum degree of time spent in a fashion business either through employment or volunteer position.

*Certification fee is $29.00, due upon application submission.

Class core exams and certificate fee can work

towards students certification fee, ultimately a student balance of a $29.00 fee is due upon application submission.

All event completions may be conducted at their scheduled times either, simultaneously during the course of the students training or after their completion of training. Proof of completion of tasks must be produced and submitted.

*Fashion designer associations (non-NAFD graduates) lisitng. $99.00.

Completion Graduates;

Includes Certification Certificate, Website/Email Listing on NAFD Website, and Annual Showcasing.

Certification; Raising the Bar:

Certification is for individuals who have the creative talent and seek educational training and the required testing to be recognized as “certified” professionals in the fashion design industry.

Certification and professional memberships allows individuals to be recognized by the consumer, the trade and wholesale showrooms as trained professionals with fashion designation and credentials.

All certified members are educated and trained in aspects of fashion design for careers in fashion.

Professional certification and membership may be applied for by students after the completion of all tasks and training.

Grand-fathering (by experience) without the required education is not acceptable for certification approval.

Persons or trade affiliates who have completed their education from another city or state may apply for certification, but, must complete; a core fashion design course (refresher) with the NAFD/UNLV program, and all other required events, tasks and testing for the professional fashion certification approval.

NAcFD Professional Fashion Certification

Persons who apply for certification and complete all tasks, testing and pass are approved by the board.

This allows the person their professional certification certificate including detailed information to be recognized as a professional fashion designer.

NAcFD Professional Fashion Certification

The volunteer board may be compiled of professionals within the NAFD, UNLV, Fashion Businesses, and The City/County of Las Vegas.

The board meets twice a year on scheduled dates for review of applications and approval.

Any board member unavailable at the scheduled time for review may vote for approval or denial after receiving applicant’s information within a 24 hr. period by fax, mail or email.

Applicants will be notified by mail within a two-week period after their approval or denial.
